The Child Dancing
there's no way I'm going to write about
the child dancing in the Warsaw ghetto
in his body of rags
there were only two corpses
on the pavement that day
and the child I will not write about
had a face as pale and trusting
as the moon
(so did
the boy with a green belly full of dirt
lying by the roadside
in a novel of Kazantzakis
and the small girl T.E. Lawrence wrote about
whom they found after the Turkish massacre
with one shoulder chopped off, crying:
'dont hurt me, Baba!')
I don't feel like slandering them with poetry.
the child who danced
in the Warsaw ghetto
to the music no one else could hear
had moon-eyes, no
green horror and no fear
but something worse
a simple desire to please
the people who stayed
to watch him shuffle back and forth,
his feet wrapped in the newspapers
of another ordinary day

That's very heartbreaking.
I love your choice, though.
"dancing in the Warsaw ghetto in his body of rags"
tearjerking
That's so sad....what they put on Arabiya's soooooooo heart breaking and too much to take
scarlo ... this poem has always been a personal favorite of mine. it never ceases to reduce me into a sobbing madwoman
marzouq and chikapappi ... i dont watch the news, and for a very good reason too. i get my info from you guys oo bas. its much less painful and less traumatizing than having to see it with your own eyes
I likes your choice.
Wow...
You never cease to amaze me, hun.
This is brilliant.
When I said few words about support of Israel on my page I was sure people can`t understand me...
& I was not mistaken...
Actually, if to read deeply, it was not support...
NOW EVERY GOVERNMENT MUST THINK ABOUT WHAT IS GOING INSIDE THEIR COUNTRY!
See, they did not do anything to kill that group...
& not only Lebanon.
Israel let every county see what can happen if not to be responsible about terrosrists & so on.
Cruel way... but nobody is able to understand it until there are not killed innocent lives...
& Russia too,
Devil take our government!
Don`t make me cry please...................................................................................................
Yeah, I just realized my comment made it seem as though I thought you wrote this...
I meant... Your BLOG never ceases to amaze me... From my perspective, you're not so bad yourself, either...
